This editorial introduces the thematic issue “The Implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights in the Era of Polycrisis”, which explores the implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights (EPSR) within a context of polycrisis, highlighting how overlapping global disruptions—such as the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing geopolitical instability—have deepened structural inequalities across Europe and challenged the foundations of the European social model. The editorial underscores how the articles in this issue engage with EPSR’s three core dimensions: equal opportunities, fair working conditions, and social protection and inclusion. These discussions unfold amid rising tensions between social policy ambitions and the dual digital and green transitions, as well as growing concern over the EU’s increased investment in security and defence, which may compromise social commitments. Drawing on empirical and theoretical contributions, the issue offers insights into labour market activation, digital inclusion, and welfare adequacy, and calls for integrated policy strategies to ensure that social rights remain central to EU governance through 2030 and beyond.
