This webinar explored how the ongoing polycrisis—marked by overlapping ecological, economic, political, and social stressors—continues to destabilize regions across Africa and the Middle East. Using Egypt as a focal point, the discussion highlighted how unresolved structural vulnerabilities from the Arab Spring era remain deeply entrenched, with rising inequality, environmental degradation, and political repression still threatening civil stability. Expanding the lens to the broader African continent, the session examined how armed conflict, climate shocks, misinformation, and governance failures are undermining progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in countries like Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The webinar emphasized the urgent need for integrated, historically informed, and context-sensitive policy responses that rebuild social trust, strengthen institutions, and promote inclusive, sustainable development across vulnerable regions.
