How Can We Build Prosperity within Planetary Boundaries?

6

This session from the 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum explores how to achieve prosperity within planetary boundaries amid accelerating climate and ecological crises. With a keynote by Johan Rockström and contributions from panelists André Hoffmann, Alicia Bárcena Ibarra, Sumant Sinha, Ramon Laguarta, and Andrew Forrest, the discussion highlights that seven of nine planetary boundaries have already been breached, increasing the risk of irreversible tipping points. The session underscores the urgency of phasing out fossil fuels and rethinking prevailing economic growth models. Panelists stress the need for rapid systemic change through technological innovation, circular economy strategies, nature-based solutions, and robust public–private collaboration. The session concludes with a call to align values, policy, and business incentives to enable urgent, scalable transformation.
