This chapter of the Handbook on Migration and Human Rights examines the urgency of adopting a holistic vision for human–environmental security in shaping the future of the planet. It highlights how “human security” objectives can be aligned with “human rights” concerns in the design and implementation of responsible government policy aimed at safeguarding planet Earth. The focus then shifts to “migration,” its contextual understanding, and the need for holistic response strategies that consider both historical and contemporary human and environmental dimensions contributing to crises. Finally, the chapter concludes by offering constructive approaches to fostering solidarity and responsible governance in addressing the polycrisis. It outlines core governance mechanisms that can be mobilized to regulate the economic modalities of late modern capitalism more responsibly and to mitigate its destructive ecological and social impacts.
